We made calls by the thousands. We wrote letters to our lawmakers. We brought new members into the movement. And because of all this teamwork, we just stopped the government from shutting down.

Take a moment to think about what that means. AFGE members from across the country, many of whom have never met, came together in solidarity to stop what many were calling an inevitable shutdown. Everyone one of you who called, wrote, and recruited should be proud of yourselves.

From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of all AFGE, thank you so much for doing your part.

But our fight is not quite over yet. Congress may have chosen to fund the government, but only through December 11th of this year. This means that two months from now, we're going to have the exact same fight.

So brothers and sisters, this may be a time for celebration, but it's also a time for mobilization. We need to call our members of Congress, email them, raise awareness of the shutdown in the press and social media, and get our coworkers, families, and friends to join us in the fight. Our members' pay checks and the services the American people rely on are hanging in the balance, and we need to keep the pressure on Congress to protect them.

So visit to help prevent another shutdown today. Or text "SHUTDOWN" to 225568 and stay up to date on the latest shutdown actions.

With your help, I know we can do this again. Thank you for all that you do.

In solidarity,
J. David Cox, Sr.
President, AFGE
